This week our guest cancelled, so we take the opportunity to address some feedback, give some shoutouts, discuss ways to improve the show, and dig into some serious vulnerabilities.
Curveball! Andy IS Dan’s VulnerabiliBuddy! AND we finally recap the mirror exercise thatGeminitold us about in Episode 5!
Please check out our new friend Naz and her show The Gender Knot. You can find it oniTunesorAudioBoom. And be sure to follow her onTwitter!
This week we brought in writer and speaker Ijeoma Oluo to make us SUPER uncomfortable. She brings up so many amazing points about systemic white supremacy and really challenges us to look at our role in society. Are we doing everything we can to stop it? Or are we living comfortably and quietly benefiting from it? If you’re a white, cis-male, be warned… you’re going to be confronted with some ugly truths.
But we don’t stop there! She also shares with us her fears at the mother of male children of color, what it’s like growing up as the only black kid in school, mixed race privilege, and we also tackle a very touchy question about transphobia.
Writer/Comedian,Riley Silvermanjoins us this week to talk a lot about life as a trans woman. She shares her experiences growing up with gender dysphoria, coming out, and eventually transitioning. We talk a lot about discrimination, adolescent masculinity, gender identity, sex, sexuality, dating, societal norms, and video games. But mostly we talk about what words Andy shouldn’t use.
This week we had the utter privilege of being joined by the celebrated American author and badass feminist Lindy West! She brought so much great stuff to the show! Big themes are body image, fat shaming (the president), using our position to defend those with smaller voices, the responsibilities of social media, and the time Andy brought a gun to Lindy’s house.
There’s also a great VulnerabiliBuddies and Lindy teaches us that a woman’s only job in life is to be sexually attractive!
